Internet is one of major resources of information, communication and services which become one of the successful invention for innovation. It has become a part of our everyday life in which you can almost do everything including searching, socializing, shopping, networking, learning, entertainment without leaving at home.

The increasing number of services that Internet can offered has caused many companies to established. As of now, Internet user has a freedom to watch video, listen music, buy product, sell product and upload and download (document, image, video, software and many more) as long as you did not do anything that is against the companies terms of agreement.


Representative Lamar Smith introduced SOPA(Stop Online Piracy Act) or H.R.3261 in United State House of Representatives which is all about the protection in intellectual property market (resultant revenue and jobs) and is necessary to assist enforcement of copyright laws especially against foreign websites.

Opponents of the bill including companies and organization noted that it is a "Censorship" and can cause a damage to the Internet including:

WEBSITE BLOCKING
 

The government can order Internet service providers to block websites for infringing link.

Example: User unintentionally posted a link of a copyrighted materials (document, image, video, software and many more).

CHAOS FOR THE INTERNET
 

Thousands of sites that are legal under the DMCA would face new legal threats. People trying to keep the Internet more secure would not be able to rely on the integrity of the DNS system.

RISK OF JAIL FOR ORDINARY USERS

Streaming a copyrighted work that would cost more thousand of dollars to license will become a violation with a potential 5 year sentence even if you are totally noncommercial user. 

Example: Uploading a copyrighted materials (document, image, video, software and many more) on a social networking sites.
